How Mohan Babu’s bank balance got saved by one hit

Recently, speaking at an event, veteran actor Mohan Babu revealed that he was nearly bankrupt by the late 1980s. This is when he watched a Mollywood movie named Chithram and decided to remake it in Telugu.

“When I watched Mohanlal’s Chithram, I wanted to act in its remake. K Raghavendra Rao garu told me he would direct its Telugu remake if I could secure the remake rights. I immediately contacted its producer and fetched the rights. It was remade as Alludu Garu. Thanks to its commercial success, I made a thorough comeback financially,” Mohan Babu said.

Alludu Garu was produced by Mohan Babu via Lakshmi Prasanna Films. Written by Priyadarshan and Satyanand, the film starred Shobana, Ramya Krishna, Chandra Mohan and Jaggaiah in prominent roles. KV Mahadevan-composed Muddabanthi Navvulo was a chartbuster.
