Did Sunjay Kapur die after swallowing a bee?

Businessman and former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay Kapur, passed away yesterday after suffering a massive heart attack. The untimely death has left everyone in shock. Ironically, just hours before he died while playing polo, he posted a condolence message for the victims of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash. Sunjay was 53 years old at the time of his death on June 12. While earlier reports claimed that the businessman died of heart attack, new updates have emerged in the case.

Sunjay Kapur died by swallowing a bee?

Business consultant Suhel Seth reportedly told ANI, Sunjay was riding a horse and playing polo when he accidentally swallowed a bee. The bee happened to get stuck in his throat, causing irritation and a state of panic, which eventually led to a heart attack. The businessman, unfortunately, succumbed to it.

Suhel was also the first person to confirm the news of Sunjay`s death on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar…Om Shanti,” he wrote.

Sona Cmmstar issues a statement

Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of the auto components firm Sona Comstar. The company issued an official press statement following his death. They called him a `visionary leader and a compassionate person`.

The statement read, “With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our esteemed Chairman and Non-Executive Director, Sunjay Kapur, on June 12, 2025, in England, United Kingdom,” Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) said in a regulatory filing. Kapur was a visionary leader and a compassionate person whose guidance shaped Sona Comstar`s success.”

Sunjay was actor Karisma Kapoor`s former husband. The couple became parents to daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. In 2014, Karisma and Sanjay filed for divorce through mutual consent. Their divorce was finalised in 2016. After the separation, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev.
