Ind vs Eng Test series: Bowling coach Morne Morkel opens up India`s preparations

Ahead of England`s Test series, Team India bowling coach Morne Morkel feels that consistency will be the key in the English conditions.

“I think consistency is crucial in England, and there is consistency when we practice, there`s consistency off the field, finding your process, what`s going to work for you as an individual,” Morkel said on the sidelines of India`s training session.

Team India will clash against England for a five-match Test series, starting from June 20. The young Indian team will enter the highly anticipated series under the leadership of their newly appointed captain, Shubman Gill. The first match is scheduled to be played at the Yorkshire Cricket Ground, Headingley, Leeds.

The 40-year-old former pacer also expressed confidence in the side`s skills.

“We`ve got a great variation, variety in our attack, guys with different skill sets so they can do that and still execute the basics well,” he said.

Team India last featured in a Test series was during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in early January. Players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan will play their maiden Test series on English soil. Additionally, India`s lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah may not feature in all five Test matches, considering his workload management.

Morkel stated that he was nervous with the limited time Team India has practised with the red ball, but said that the energy players showcased in the last three days was a pleasing sight to watch.

“All in all, happy with the start so far. I was a little bit nervous in terms of the lack of red ball we`ve played but seeing how the guys are moving around and training in the last three days is a pleasing sight. We have a fantastic group. There`s some quality energy and that`s what you need. You need to go into a Test series confident and have that team spirit,” said Morkel.

India`s Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
