Aamir Khan opens up on why Imran Khan struggled in Bollywood

Aamir Khan recently opened up about a conversation he had with his nephew, former actor Imran Khan, about why he stepped away from acting a decade ago. Aamir shared that Imran has always struggled to feel at home in the typical structure of mainstream cinema. Although he impressed in films like Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Delhi Belly, Aamir believes Imran is not the kind of actor who naturally fits into the mold of conventional Bollywood films.

Aamir explained that Imran has always wanted to focus on acting rather than chasing stardom, and the typical “hero” roles never felt right to him. Describing his nephew’s creative side, Aamir said, “Yes, Imran has a certain creative instinct. He finds it difficult to fit into the mainstream construct that we have. That is not his natural space. Which is why he’d do really well in a film like Jaane Tu and Delhi Belly. He is in his element there. But the moment you put him into a regular Hindi film, he won’t fit. He is not comfortable with “herogiri”. He wants to play a real person. Everybody was offering him mainstream films because he is good-looking. But he wants to be an actor, and not a star.”

Imran first appeared on screen as a child artiste, portraying the younger version of Aamir Khan’s character in classics like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, both directed by Mansoor Khan. Years later, in 2008, he stepped into the spotlight as a lead actor with the romantic hit Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na, where he starred opposite Genelia D’Souza.

Imran’s last appearance on the big screen was in Katti Batti alongside Kangana Ranaut in 2015. Since then, he has taken a break from acting.
