The Google Pixel 10 series could bring back one of Pixel 4’s features you didn’t know you missed. Well, at least according to a new report by Android Authority. And no, it’s not the advanced facial scanning features, or anything like that.
The feature in question is Ambient EQ, but a bit different
The feature the source refers to is Ambient EQ, actually. That feature was able to dynamically adjust the display’s white balance based on the light in the environment you’re using the phone. If that sounds familiar, well, it’s no surprise, it functions similarly to Apple’s True Tone.
In any case, the Pixel 4 series did offer Ambient EQ, but the latter models did not. It was not a part of the Pixel 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 series smartphones. In other words, it hasn’t been around since 2019, for almost 6 full years at this point. The feature was a part of the Pixel Tablet and Nest Hub, too, by the way.
Its arrival is not 100% guaranteed
Well, Android Authority claims that it’s coming back, as a “source inside Google” shared as much. This is not 100% guaranteed, though, it would seem, as the word “likely” has been used.
Ambient EQ could be making a comeback with the Pixel 10 series, but not under that name. The new name will likely be “Adaptive tone”, which is the same name Google used for this feature on the Pixel Tablet.
The source further says that the feature will be enabled by an upgraded combo of an ambient light and color sensor. It will be available on all non-foldable Pixel 10 devices, based on the information that was shared.
Let’s hope it will work better than it did before
Having said that, Ambient EQ did not exactly shine on the Pixel 4. It did not work as well as it should have. The same can be said for the Pixel Tablet’s adaptation. So let’s hope that Google will nail it this time around… if it ends up being included with the Pixel 10 series.
