Ind vs Eng Test series: Uthappa hails THIS player ahead of five-match series

Former cricketer Robin Uthappa heaped praise on Sai Sudharsan by saying that the left-hander has added more shots and is well aware of his game in terms of acceleration.

Speaking about Sai Sudharsan, “One name that immediately comes to mind is Sai Sudharsan. His evolution over the last couple of years has been phenomenal. Just last year, he was retired out in a game for not scoring quickly enough. And this year, he hasn`t changed his technique or approach; he`s just added a couple of shots, knows when to accelerate, and suddenly his strike rate has jumped from 130 to 170,” said Robin during the launch event of the Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26.

In the recently concluded IPL 2025, Sai yet again showcased his skills by delivering consistent performances for Gujarat Titans. During the tournament, despite having the likes of Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler, Shubman Gill and Mitchell Marsh, and Suryakumar Yadav, the 23-year-old finished the league as the highest run-scorer overall.

Having played 15 IPL 2025 matches for the Gujarat-based franchise, the left-hander amassed 759 runs with an average of 54.21. He also had one ton and six half-centuries. Along with `Orange Cap`, Sai was also awarded as the `Emerging Player of the Season`.

Further, the 39-year-old stated that Sai in going to be India`s future three-format players along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. He also mentioned the names of rising talents such as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.

“Now, he`s the Orange Cap holder. That`s mighty impressive. I genuinely believe he`s one of India`s future three-format players, alongside the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all young guns in their own right. Then you`ve got players like Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and so many others stepping up. This is a boiling pot of talent, and I don`t think it`s slowing down anytime soon,” concluded Uthappa.

Apart from his stellar knocks in the shortest format of the game, Sai also tasted success in the previous year`s Ranji Trophy season. In his three domestic outings for Tamil Nadu, the gritty left-hander had smashed 304 runs, including a century and a half-century.

After his string of consistent runs across formats, Sudharsan was named in India`s squad for the five high-stakes Tests in England.
