Netizens slam Housefull 5 director for comparing baby with dog

It`s no news by now that Deepika Padukone recently turned down Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial Spirit starring Prabhas. The issue has sparked conversations and debates in the industry about its stance on new working mothers. Besides, it has also raised the topics of pay parity and more. While many people from the industry came forward to support Deepika, she recently found another supporter in Housefull 5 director Tarun Mansukhani. Although his support was appreciated, the words and way he chose to express the same did not sit well with the internet. As a result, he is being highly criticised by netizens.

But the internet is miffed at him for comparing looking after a dog to a baby.

For those unversed, earlier this month, it was reported that Deepika walked out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga`s project following disagreements about pay scale, Telugu dialogues, and bold scenes. However, one of the most significant points of disagreement that caught everyone`s eye was that the actress demanded a strict 8-hour schedule because of her infant daughter, Dua, whom she welcomed with husband Ranveer Singh in September last year. The demands miffed the filmmaker, who publicly but indirectly called her out. However, several people from the Hindi film industry, including Ajay Devgn and Mani Ratnam, soon rallied in support of her.

During a recent interview with India Today, Housefull 5 director Tarun was asked about his take on the issue, to which he expressed his support for Deepika, saying that there were always ways to work around tight working hours. He also noted that the actors` demands need to be mentioned in a contract beforehand, instead of being brought up last minute. He went on to say, “I want to go home and spend time with my dog. So I get the vibe and totally get the feeling. But just put it in the contract from the beginning, then everyone`s prepared.” This statement, which seemingly compared a baby to a dog, drew flak from the internet.

Internet reacts

The internet clearly did not like the Housefull 5 filmmaker`s comment. One user on Reddit expressed their shock and wrote, “Is he comparing spending time with his dog with Deepika`s newborn baby?” Meanwhile, another quipped, “Male Mira Kapoor. Babies are puppies.” One user even pointed out, “Men: oh, taking care of a kid is just like a pet be away from them, even if you’re missing them, don’t worry about breastfeeding or any of your own maternal instincts. Also men: women should be at home and take care of their kids and clean the house what’s wrong with these career-oriented women.” (sic)

A user seemed clearly annoyed with Tarun. Calling him a ‘manchild’ they wrote, “He`s trying to become another manchild.. answer is very kidish.” Another user doubted his support for the actress and thought that he was in fact taking a dig at the King actress, saying, “This guy comparing dogs with babies clearly doesn’t understand the difference between want and need … anyway..it’s obviously a dig at her.” (sic)
