VECV Advances Net Zero Commitment with Zero-Emission Fleet and Sustainability Initiatives

VE Commercial Vehicles Limited reaffirmed its commitment to India’s Net Zero targets on World Environment Day, June 5, 2025, by highlighting its operational fleet of zero emission trucks and buses across India and announcing renewable energy goals for its manufacturing operations.

The commercial vehicle manufacturer has deployed its Eicher Pro Planet Pro Business range of zero emission trucks and buses nationwide, with electric buses operating since 2022 across various Indian states. The company recently launched the EV-first Eicher Pro X Small Truck targeting mid and last-mile delivery customers seeking to reduce environmental impact.

VECV’s sustainability initiatives center around its Bhopal manufacturing facility, which opened in 2020 as India’s first commercial vehicle manufacturing unit built on Industry 4.0 principles. The plant integrates digital intelligence, operator ergonomics and environmental design with AI-powered real-time energy monitoring systems to optimize consumption and operational efficiency. The facility features an all-woman final assembly line for the Eicher Pro X, marking an industry first in gender inclusivity.

The company operates alternate fuel solutions based on liquefied natural gas, compressed natural gas and electric power. VECV targets achieving 70% renewable energy usage by FY27 and water positive status by 2030.

Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of VECV, said, “In line with India’s Net Zero vision defined by Honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi ji, VECV is committed to delivering future-ready mobility solutions—from electric, LNG and CNG trucks and buses to emerging technologies like hydrogen and fuel cells—as the market matures. Our investments in smart manufacturing, renewable energy, and responsible resource management reflect a holistic approach to sustainable growth. As we celebrate #WorldEnvironmentDay, let’s work together to be the change we want to see!”

The company has implemented several sustainability measures including developing a water body with 52 million liters capacity at its Bhopal facility, sufficient to operate the plant for four months. VECV has transitioned to 100% LED lighting across all facilities, replacing approximately 5,000 conventional lighting fixtures. This transition reduced energy intensity from 3.85 GJ/MINR in FY 2022-23 to 3.74 GJ/MINR in FY 2023-24.

VECV focuses on gender diversity, energy efficiency, waste reduction, zero waste to landfill, plantation and emissions control through projects supporting United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 6, 7, 12, and 13.

VE Commercial Vehicles Limited operates as a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited since August 2008. The company produces and sells Eicher branded trucks and buses in 40 countries, Volvo Buses India, provides exclusive distribution of Volvo Trucks in India, manufactures engines and exports for Volvo Group, and handles Eicher’s non-automotive engines and component business.
