Yamaha’s Chennai Facility Celebrates 10 Years of Operations, Rolls Out 5 Millionth Two-Wheeler

India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. has completed 10 years of operations at its Chennai manufacturing facility. The occasion was marked by the rollout of the plant’s 5 millionth two-wheeler, an Aerox 155 Version S.

Since starting operations, the Chennai facility has played a key role in Yamaha’s production strategy, catering to both domestic and international markets. The plant currently produces models such as the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi, and Aerox 155 Version S. Additionally, it exports the FZ series, the Saluto range, and the Alpha scooter. Over 30% of the plant’s total output is designated for export.

Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies, said the Chennai factory is a strategically important part of Yamaha’s global network, contributing through skilled workforce, operational integration, and adherence to global quality standards.

Spread over 177 acres—109 acres for Yamaha operations and 68 acres for co-located vendor partners—the facility follows a ‘One Factory’ model aimed at improving efficiency and supply chain integration. The plant has been upgraded over time to align with Yamaha’s premium product strategy, focusing on small to midrange engine motorcycles and scooters.

With India’s emission standards evolving, Yamaha has positioned the Chennai facility as a global export hub. The plant supports product deliveries to markets in Europe, Latin America, ASEAN countries, and others.

The facility includes sustainability measures such as a 4,450 kW solar power system, zero-water discharge, wastewater recycling, and solar-compatible building designs. Common utilities are centrally located to improve energy management.

Yamaha’s Chennai factory is expected to continue supporting the company’s manufacturing goals in India and contribute to its global operations with a focus on performance, quality, and sustainability.
