Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district have arrested three individuals for their alleged involvement in the theft of electrical transformers, successfully dismantling a gang engaged in such crimes, an official confirmed on Friday.
According to PTI reports, the arrested accused have been identified as Obedulla Alam Tajmmul Hussain Khan (26), Anil Ambika Yadav (22), and Jaysingh Kishorilal Chavan (36). The police have recovered four stolen electrical transformers, approximately 620 kilograms of copper, and 20 litres of transformer oil from their possession.
Senior Inspector Samir Ahirrao of Crime Unit-II of Mira-Bhayandar, Vasai-Virar Police stated that the gang was apprehended following an investigation into a transformer theft that occurred on February 12 in the district. As per PTI, further inquiries revealed that Yadav and Chavan had multiple cases registered against them for similar offences.
The theft of electrical transformers poses a significant threat to public infrastructure, disrupting power supply and causing inconvenience to residents and businesses. The stolen copper and transformer oil are often sold in the black market, making such crimes financially lucrative for criminals.
Thane police launch probe as transformer equipment of Rs 4.68 lakh stolen
Unidentified persons have allegedly stolen oil and copper wires valued at Rs 4.68 lakh from the transformer of a power company in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Monday, reported news agency PTI.
The incident took place at the electrical transformer installed at Kharvai in Badlapur area on the intervening night of January 22 and 23, an official said.
The official said based on a complaint by a representative of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL), an FIR was registered on Saturday against unidentified persons under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 303 (2) (theft).
Thane accident: 10 going for wedding function injured as bus overturns
The police on Monday said that the ten persons were injured when a private minibus they were travelling in overturned on the Mumbai-Nashik route in Maharashtra`s Thane district, reported news agency PTI.
The accident took place at the Kasara Ghat at around 9 am on Sunday when nearly 20 persons were heading in the bus from Cuffe Parade in neighbouring Mumbai to Sinnar in Nashik for a marriage function, the police officials said while sharing an update on the Thane accident, reported PTI.
The bus driver lost control over the wheels at Chintamanwadi turning. As a result, the vehicle overturned, Kasara police station`s inspector Suresh Gavit said while sharing an update on the Thane accident, reported PTI.
Ten persons suffered injuries and they were admitted to private hospitals in Shahapur and other neighbouring towns. Four of them, who were in serious condition, were shifted to the government-run JJ Hospital in Mumbai for further treatment, he said.
Thane accident: Chemical-laden trailer hits road divider; traffic hit
The officials said that a trailer truck carrying chemicals hit a road divider on a busy road in Maharashtra`s Thane city on Monday morning, affecting vehicular movement for more than two hours, reported news agency PTI.
No casualty was reported in the incident, the officials said while sharing an update on the Thane accident, reported PTI.
The trailer on the way from Belagavi in Karnataka towards Morbi in Gujarat when it hit the road divider near Waghbil bridge on Ghodbunder Road in Thane at 7.45 am, Thane Municipal Corporation`s disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said while sharing an update on the Thane accident, reported PTI.
The engine oil tank of the vehicle got damaged following the Thane accident, and the oil leaked from it on the road.
