Mizoram’s Chief Minister praises Mehran Amrohi’s film Chidiya

Children’s films are hard to find in Bollywood. So, director Mehran Amrohi’s Chidiya, which tells the story of two young brothers who turn a forgotten junkyard in Dharavi into a badminton court, comes as a refreshing change of pace. Before its May 30 release, Mizoram’s Chief Minister Lalduhoma penned a letter to the makers, applauding them for telling a tender story from the point of view of children.

An excerpt from the letter read, “It is heartening to know that a film celebrating the dreams, resilience, and imagination of children has touched audiences… I commend your team for crafting a cinematic experience that uplifts and unites — a message most relevant in today’s world.”

With Chidiya — starring Vinay Pathak, Amruta Subhash, child actors Svar Kamble, and Ayush Pathak — the director wanted to depict that even the smallest places can birth big dreams. Amrohi shares that Chief Minister Lalduhoma recently watched the movie. The director adds, “We’re deeply touched by the Chief Minister’s kind words, and hope this story inspires everyone who watches it. In today’s times, children’s films are more important than ever to ensure that the world isn’t depleted of its innocence. They remind us of the joy and curiosity that define childhood.”
