Scaler Innovation Lab has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based startup Gahan AI to collaborate on autonomous navigation systems, specifically aimed at enhancing vehicle safety and performance in the mining industry.
The collaboration brings together Scaler’s network of engineering and business students and Gahan AI’s technical expertise in autonomous mobility and artificial intelligence. The partnership will focus on developing navigation systems for unstructured, unmapped terrains where conventional map-based guidance systems are ineffective. These solutions will be applicable in mining sites across India and globally, especially under adverse weather conditions.
Students from Scaler School of Technology and Scaler School of Business will participate in research and development activities under the mentorship of Gahan AI’s team. Engineering students will contribute to creating AI models capable of real-time decision-making in unpredictable environments. Business students will work on commercialization strategies, including pricing, go-to-market plans, and operational models.
The initiative addresses key safety challenges in the mining sector. Data from India’s Directorate General of Mines Safety indicates that nearly 40% of mining fatalities result from haulage-related incidents, while global figures from the International Council on Mining and Metals attribute over 70% of fatal surface mining accidents to vehicle interactions in poorly mapped areas. Gahan AI aims to reduce such risks with technology that enables vehicles to operate safely without prior map data.
Gahan AI will conduct workshops and hackathons exclusively for Scaler students. Selected participants will receive internships and mentorship opportunities, including roles within the startup’s core business functions. Gahan’s leadership will also support student-led startups incubated at the Scaler Innovation Lab.
As part of the partnership, Gahan AI will establish a presence within the Scaler Innovation Lab, offering guidance to early-stage ventures. The model emphasizes experiential learning and aims to give students exposure to real-world challenges in emerging technology domains.
Founded in 2022, Gahan AI focuses on developing autonomous solutions for hazardous, unstructured environments such as mining and defense. Its proprietary technology stack includes AI-powered software, sensor fusion systems, and long-range teleoperation tools. The company is part of NVIDIA’s Inception program and has received recognition from NASSCOM and AICRA.
Established in 2019, Scaler provides tech education and upskilling programs through platforms such as Scaler Academy, Scaler Neovarsity, and Scaler School of Business. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and B2B talent solutions, working with over 1,000 companies globally. Scaler is backed by investors including Peak XV Partners, Tiger Global, and Lightrock India.
