Mumbai Indians on Wednesday registered a victory by 59 runs in the IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals. Following the win, skipper Hardik Pandya hailed the star duo, Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah, for showcasing their skills during the Wankhede clash.
“I can throw the ball whenever I want, they bring such control and perfection which makes my job very easy,” said the winning captain Pandya during the post-match presentation.
Jasprit and Santner bagged three wickets each to restrict Delhi to 121 runs in 18.2 overs.
During MI`s innings, premier batsman Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir showed gritty character by taking the side to 180 runs. Pandya also spoke about the batting duo by saying Naman`s innings was outstanding.
“We would`ve been very happy to get 160 but the way Naman and Surya finished it. Especially Naman, to come out and just hit on a difficult track was outstanding,” said the MI skipper.
Facing just eight balls, Naman accumulated 24 runs, including two boundaries and the same number of maximums. On the other hand, Suryakumar smashed an unbeaten 73 runs in just 43 deliveries. The win also helped the Paltan to seal the IPL 2025 playoffs` berth.
After suffering a loss, “If you looked at the two teams before today`s fixture, it was a case of David and Goliath, I enjoy that because it gives guys the opportunity to really play together as a team,” said Faf du Plessis.
He further praised Sameer Rizvi, who scored 39 runs in 35 balls. His knock also included six boundaries and a maximum.
“Rizvi today showed some signs, he`s got some talent there. When you`re playing against a powerful team like this, you need to be at your best all the time and unfortunately for 17-18 overs we were and then the last two overs we were pretty average. With the bat, we needed a good start on a surface like that and we didn`t get going at all. Sums up pretty much our season, we`ve been cold in either batting or bowling in the last 6-7 games. To be in the top four in the IPL, you can`t afford to do that,” concluded DC`s stand-in skipper du Plessis.
