There was sheer excitement in the air at Mehboob Studios on the first day of Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated film King. For the past week, action directors have started the groundwork for today. Nadine Theron, Run Navarach, and Saddam Shaikh – the stunt actors – had begun the process for what is to be shot over the next few weeks.
The shoot kicked off sharp at 9 am, with Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Saurabh Shukla shooting for a pivotal scene.
This wasn’t just another day at work. It was Suhana’s first scene with her father — on a film set — and there was a sense of tenderness behind the camera. SRK, the ever-doting co-star and father, was seen giving her quiet encouragement between takes, onlookers report to mid-day. “Suhana was focused and could hold her own with remarkable calm, especially opposite two seasoned actors. King had been prepped extensively, and of course, every detail has been worked upon on the workshop stage,” a source adds.
Director Siddharth Anand kept the mood light, orchestrating a 12-hour shoot that wrapped a little after 9 pm. “Despite the long hours, there was an ease to the proceedings, like a crew that knew they were capturing something important. There were over 500 people on set. But this is a closed set. There is high security to avoid any leaks. These important scenes of this schedule will be shot here over the next few days, but the first schedule will have multiple locations, over and above this set.”
