NSE, BSE Top gainers & losers today May 20, 2025: Sensex down over 500 pts, Coal India, ONGC, Hindalco, Tata Steel shares lead gainers, Protean, Honda India, Cochin Shipyard, Zen Tech shares in action

Benchmark indices traded lower in the mid-day trading session on Tuesday amid mixed global cues. Sensex depreciated 512.86 pts or 0.62 per cent to 81,546.56 as at 12.56 pm, and Nifty 50 declined 143.10 pts or 0.57 per cent to 24,802.35.

The volatility index dipped 0.93 per cent to 17.19. Smallcap stock showed resilience amid the market dip, while midcap stocks slid.

Realty, metal and IT indexes trading in positive territory with marginal gains, while banking, auto and media indexes dipped close to 1 per cent.

Top gainers & losers today

Coal India, ONGC, Hindalco, Tata Steel and Dr Reddy’s Laboraties emerged as top gainers of Nifty 50 components, while Eternal, Cipla, Hero Motocorp, Maruti Suzuki and Eicher Motors declined.

Nearly 1,203 stocks advanced and 1,486 declined of all the 2,775 stocks that were trading on the National Stock Exchange. About 105 stocks including Zen Tech, KPI Green, Honda Power and DCM Financial Services hit the upper circuit and 37 hit the lower circuit. 44 stocks hit the 52-week high and 10 hit 52-week low.

Coal India shares rose 2.79 per cent to ₹413.95, leading the gainers of Nifty 50 pack. ONGC shares gained 1.16 per cent to ₹250.55.

Hindalco Industries stock was up 1.07 per cent to ₹665.40.

Tata Steel stock rose 1.01 per cent to ₹159.16.

On the flip side, Eternal shares fell 3.19 per cent to ₹230.44.

Cipla declined 1.76 per cent to ₹1,465.40.

Hero Motocorp dropped 1.74 per cent to ₹4,311.30 and Maruti depreciated 1.62 per cent to ₹12,779.

Defence stocks such as Cochin Shipyard, Paras Defence, Unimech, DCX India and Data Patterns declined 3-6 per cent.

Among smallcap, shares of Zensar Tech, PGEL, Godfrey Phillips and Aegis Logistics soared 3-6 per cent. BHEL, SAIL, Union Bank, Dixon and Nykaa traded 1-2 per cent positive among midcap.

On the BSE, shares of Pfizer, Inox Green rallied 12 per cent. Newgen, BASF soared over 9 per cent.

Quess Corp and Protean shares tumbled 8 per cent.

BEL, Mobikwik, Power Grid, Karur Vysya Bank and Zydus Wellness shares reacted to Q4 results. Hindalco, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Gland Pharma, Solar Industries, Dixon, Max Healthcare, Whirlpool and more will announce Q4 results today. Track live updates
