Mangaluru Airport clocks 15% passenger growth in FY25, sets new records

Mangaluru Airport saw 15.34% growth in FY25, handling 23.28 lakh passengers and hitting record daily highs in April 2025, driven by robust domestic and expanding international traffic.

Mangaluru International Airport handled 23,28,505 passengers during the financial year 2024-25 as against 20,18,796 in 2023-24, registering a growth of 15.34 per cent. In real terms, the airport handled 3,09,709 more passengers in 2024-25 than in the previous financial year.

The growth is 24.1 per cent when compared to the pre-Covid financial year of 2019-20 when the airport handled 18,76,294 passengers.

A media statement said that the spurt in passenger growth comes primarily from the domestic sector, with 16,13,250 passengers using the airport in 2024-25 as against 14,08,300 passengers in the previous financial year, a growth of 14.55 per cent. The number of international passengers travelling jumped by 17.15 per cent in 2024-25 with 7,15,255 passengers travelling to various overseas destinations as against 6,10,496 passengers in 2023-24.

In 2024-25, the airport handled 16,816 air traffic movements (ATMs). including domestic, international and general aviation traffic. This is 11.26 per cent higher than the 15,113 ATMs handled in 2023-24.

On the international sector, the airport recorded a 22.14 per cent increase in ATMs, having handled 4,286 ATMs in 2024-25 against 3,509 in the previous fiscal. On the domestic front, the airport handled 12,244 ATMs in 2024-25 against 11,239 ATMs in 2023-24, a growth of 8.94 per cent.

Cargo

On the cargo front, the airport handled 3,864.1 tonnes of domestic cargo in 2024-25 as compared to 3,706.02 tonnes in 2023-24. Domestic cargo operations at the Integrated Cargo Terminal began on May 1 2023.

On the international front, the airport started cargo operations from July 2024 and handled 1347.07 tonnes of cargo, including 1,346.27 tonnes of outbound and 0.79 tonnes of inbound cargo till March 31 2025.

The statement said that the airport began 2025-26 with robust growth on the passenger front, managing 2,17,893 passengers in April. This includes 1,43,117 domestic and 74,776 international passengers spread across 1,182 domestic and 392 international ATMs. The airport thus bettered its previous highest number of 2,13,256 passengers set in January 2025. The airport also handled its highest-ever 8,103 passengers for a single day on April 12 2025, bettering the 8,086 mark achieved on February 22 2025, it added.
