ZF Wind Power has inaugurated India’s largest 13.2 MW wind gearbox and powertrain test rig at its Coimbatore facility.
The advanced test rig enables dynamic load simulations and real-time torque reversal cycles—critical for validating next-generation gearboxes. With extreme validation capabilities up to 20 MNm, it will support the development of robust, high-performance systems for modern wind turbines.
Designed to meet both current and future testing needs, the facility is expected to significantly enhance product development and reduce lead times, according to a company statement.
“The 13.2 MW test rig strengthens our broader strategy to drive sustainable energy solutions and empowers the development of more efficient and reliable wind turbines,” said Akash Passey, President, ZF Group India.
To date, ZF’s Coimbatore plant has supplied nearly 60 GW of wind gearbox capacity to domestic and global markets. The new test rig further strengthens India’s wind energy infrastructure and ZF’s position in the global supply chain. It will significantly boost gearbox testing capabilities in terms of torque and speed, allowing validation of new products designed for higher torque levels.
The Coimbatore facility is now equipped to undertake full-scale product development for next-generation gearboxes—reducing lead times and optimising investments.
“ZF Group is investing in India to offer complete solutions — from R&D to testing and validation — for both global and local needs. In the next phase, we will establish a cold chamber test facility, enabling our India plant to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end solutions,” said Felix Henseler, CEO, ZF Wind Power.
