Barely eight months into opening its first India office at Technopark, the US-headquartered Armada.AI, an Edge Computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) product firm, has scaled up its operations by turning the facility into a key centre in developing unique AI technologies.
Currently, the US and the Middle East are Armada’s major markets, but a broader global expansion—including India—is on the horizon, said Sarath Chandran, Head of India R&D at Armada.AI. “We were specifically looking for Tier-2 cities. Strategically located, Thiruvananthapuram turned out to be the ideal choice due to its institutions, connectivity, talent pool, and vibrant IT ecosystem,” he said.
He said the company has a partnership with Starlink to create a software platform that helps customers better manage and optimise their Starlink connectivity, enhancing the value they derive from it.
Armada’s AI and edge computing solutions help companies with operations in remote parts of the world where access to robust connectivity and computing resources is limited. For example, our cutting-edge technology is used by some of the world’s leading oil, gas, and mining firms, he said.
Within a short span of time, he said the company has expanded its operations in Technopark Phase-3 and the facilities at the park have helped it streamline its operations. The company was able to recruit world class talents from within the state where it has around 90 R&D engineers and is actively looking to grow its team further.
On India’s progress in AI, Chandran said the country has the right talent and infrastructure for AI but still has a long way to go to be on par with US and China.
The establishment of companies like Armada.AI here underscores the strength and depth of the talent pool in the region” said Sanjeev Nair, CEO, Technopark. “We are optimistic and actively working to enable many more companies to establish their presence here by leveraging this key advantage,” he added.
