Samsung DeX’s Leaked Redesign Channels Android 16’s Desktop UI

Samsung DeX’s Leaked Redesign Channels Android 16’s Desktop UI

For years, Samsung has been one of the few smartphone makers offering a true desktop-like interface with its DeX feature. If you’ve ever plugged your Galaxy flagship phone into an external monitor, you know just how handy it can be. The feature lets you work and use your apps with a familiar PC-style layout. Well, now Samsung seems to be working on a DeX redesign based on the leaked Android 16’s native desktop mode.

Over the years, Samsung has improved DeX by adding new features that make it more practical and useful. For example, you no longer need to use a cable to enable DeX. That’s right, the system even has a wireless mode, which is great.

Samsung’s Android 16-based DeX redesign for One UI 8

Now it seems a significant redesign of DeX is in the works for Samsung’s One UI 8 update. The X/Twitter user @DevOfIpos recently shared some screenshots, giving us a sneak peek at what these changes might look like. The user is reportedly running this Android 16-based version of DeX on a Galaxy S25 Ultra.

According to the leaked screenshots, it looks like this DeX redesign isn’t a complete overhaul. It seems more like a smart adaptation to what Google is expected to offer with Android 16’s native desktop mode. This makes a lot of sense—why stray too far from something that’s likely to be good? From the looks of it, we can expect a familiar window management system, a taskbar for easy app switching, and an app drawer to find all your installed apps. There’s even a redesigned Quick Settings panel for faster access to your most used toggles.

It’s no secret that Google and Samsung have been close collaborators for years now. So, it’s not surprising to see the South Korean tech giant quickly embracing fresh-out-of-the-oven Android features and integrating them into their own software. According to reports, Samsung will unveil One UI 8 alongside Samsung’s new foldable phones at their second Unpacked event of 2025, which is rumored to be happening in July. Another recent leak claims that the first beta of One UI 8 will be available in June.

This potential integration of Android 16’s desktop elements into the revamped Samsung DeX could mean an even more seamless and consistent desktop experience, regardless of whether you’re using a Samsung phone or another Android device in the future. It’s an exciting time for mobile multitasking, and it looks like both Google and Samsung are committed to making our smartphones even more versatile.
