Poor sentiments because of the macro economic factors in the market and lesser new launches, have led to decline in sales for passenger vehicles makers like Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) in April on yearly basis.
HMIL reported domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) of 44,374 units in April, which is a year-on-year (y-o-y) decline of 11.6 per cent as compared with 50,201 units in April 2024.
Similarly, Tata Motors has reported a decline of 6 per cent y-o-y in its domestic sales to 45,199 units in April, as compared with 47,883 units in April 2024. But, the greater number of sales has made Tata Motors beat HMIL last month.
Powering ahead
“While the domestic market continues to face headwinds on account of various macro-economic factors, we continue to champion ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ emphasising HMIL’s strong focus on exports. This has resulted in a robust 21.5 per cent YoY growth in export volumes in April 2025,” Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL said.
However, ‘Syros’ maker, Kia India continued its upward sales trajectory in April with dispatches of 23,623 units in the domestic market last month, which was a healthy growth of 18.3 per cent y-o-y as compared with 19,968 units in the corresponding month last year.
“This performance reaffirms the growing trust our customers place in Kia’s product excellence and brand promise. As we look ahead, our unwavering focus remains on delivering progressive, customer-centric mobility solutions that resonate with evolving aspirations,” Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President, and Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia India, said.
Kia India is all set to unveil its new offering, ‘Clavis,’ on May 8th. This innovative product is poised to set new standards in the segment, specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of our customers, he added.
Toyota, MG Motor bucks trend
The Japanese subsidiary of the world’s largest car maker, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), reported y-o-y growth of 21 per cent in April 2025. Domestic sales reached 24,833 units, up from 20,494 units in April 2024.
