A 40-metre stretch of the road outside the Ahmedabad railway station in Kalupur area of the city will remain closed for three months, starting Thursday, as supporting infrastructure will be built for the renovation of the entire premises.
In a notification on Wednesday, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police said that a 40-metre strength of the road between pillars P24 and P27 will remain closed as engineering work on the elevated corridor will be underway. Notably, the elevated corridor, when fully operational, will pass over the existing road in front of the railway station and create more space, to ease the traffic flow in the heavily congested area.
The notification, signed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) N N Chaudhari, stated that this portion of the road will be closed for traffic between May 1 and August 31.
The order also provides a diversionary route. From Sarangpur circle one can directly go through Revadi Bazaar and BBC market towards Reed Hotel and turn either towards the railway station or towards Kalupur circle. Those coming from Kalupur circle can use the one-way road towards the railway station and onwards to Sarangpur circle.
