Yuzvendra Chahal took the first hattrick of this season of the Indian Premier League when he snapped up 4 wickets in the same over against the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday. This was also the first hattrick in the league since 2023 and Chahal’s second hattrick in the league.
It happened in the 19th over which CSK’s captain MS Dhoni started with a six before falling to Chahal in the second delivery. The last wicket of the hattrick was of Noor Ahmad who tried to take on Chahal and just holed out to Marco Jansen in the deep for another duck. Chahal (4/32) was the was the most successful bowler for PBKS even Sam Curran’s 88 helped hosts CSK reach a competitive 190 all out at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Curran (88, 47b, 9×4, 4×6) found good support from Dewald Brevis (32, 26b, 2×4, 1×6) as CSK put a fighting total on the board.

“Feeling very good, it was the 19th over and in front of me was Mahi bhai, felt it could go either way, but the plan was to go for wickets. Five fielders were inside and the plan was to bowl on the stumps and also to bowl wide, not bowl easy balls and play with the batter’s mind. It came from the memes and I had planned to do this celebration if I take a five-fer or a hat-trick. It is not easy, 190 is a good score, when the ball is old, it turns, still a good total to chase,” Chahal said in the post-innings chat.
Chahal had taken a hattrick in IPL 2022 in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders where he had removed Venkatesh Iyer off his first delivery in the 17th over and then Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi and Pat Cummins off the fourth, fifth and sixth balls to completely turn the match on its head and hand RR a close seven-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
