The newly formed Mehsana Municipal Corporation on Monday launched a city bus service. The first bus was driven by Rajya Sabha MP Mayank Nayak. Nayak, a resident of Mehsana city, said, “I hold a heavy motor vehicle license. So, I decided to drive the first bus as local MLAs and other office-bearers also travelled in it. It was just to encourage people to avail the bus service.” Nayak said that he also had some suggestions, which included drinking water facility on the buses specially in the summer. A total 18 buses will ply as part of the newly launched service.
A Book On MSU
Former Senate and Syndicate Member of MS University and structural engineering expert, II Pandya, has released a book on the “reasons leading to the downfall” of the university, in an event Sunday. The book, titled ‘Major Hints’, has 18 chapters, which have vivid descriptions of 18 incidents witnessed by Pandya during his 38-year academic journey, including 25 years as a Senate Member and 12 years as a Syndicate member. The book’s title is inspired from classical book ‘Minor Hints’, a series of lectures delivered to Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III by Madhava Rao T during his grooming years. Pandya said, “I classified the narration into 18 chapters — same as the number of chapters in the Bhagwad Geeta and Chapter 12 is the longest, as is in the Geeta… The book is a narration of how the downfall of the university began due to vested interests of those helming affairs and how several V-Cs contributed to the deterioration of the university.” Pandya, known for speaking his mind, having been the President of the Baroda University Teachers’ Association for 10 years, retired from MSU in October 2021.
