The prestigious Padma Awards were presented on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. From the entertainment industry, actors Ajith and Nandamuri Balakrishna, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, musician Ricky Kej, and late singer Pankaj Udhas were presented the honour by President Droupadi Murmu.
Tamil superstar Ajith smiled as he received the Padma Bhushan, while his family — wife Shalini Ajith, daughter Anoushka and son, Aadvik — cheered on from the audience. The official X handle of the President of India shared his picture with the caption, “He is a towering figure in Indian cinema, particularly in the Tamil film industry. His ability to portray a wide spectrum of characters has cemented his reputation as one of the most versatile actors in the industry. His influence stretches far beyond the confines of cinema. He is involved in charitable activities, lending support to various causes without seeking public attention.” The actor is also known for his achievements in motorsports.

Telugu superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna also accepted the honour. “During a career spanning over five decades, he acted in films of various genres and enacted memorable roles. He is also recognised for his services to cancer patients as Chairman of a cancer hospital where he has extended cancer care to poor and under-served people,” stated The President of India handle, along with a picture.

Shekhar Kapur, best known for helming cult classics like Masoom (1983), Mr. India (1984), and Bandit Queen (1994), also received the Padma Bhushan from the President of India, who shared in her tweet, “He is a visionary filmmaker whose work spans Indian and International cinema. From redefining Indian cinema with Bandit Queen to earning global acclaim with Elizabeth, he has consistently pushed creative boundaries. His legacy lies not only in his films but in the inspiration he continues to provide to later generations of storytellers.”

Late singer Pankaj Udhas’ wife Farida Udhas received the Padma Bhushan on his behalf. “He was a versatile singer and he added to the popularity of ghazals. His influence spread across different segments of music lovers. He was also deeply committed to philanthropy.
