Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 tipped for September launch

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 tipped for September launch

Qualcomm seems to be moving up the launch dates of its flagship chipsets every year. The company used to launch its next-gen chipsets around November or December, but it has slowly moved the launch dates up. The current-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite launched in October 2024. Now, Qualcomm is tipped to launch the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in September.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will launch in September. The source also claims that the first Snapdragon 8 Elite 2-powered phones will arrive in October.

This is similar to the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. When the chipset was released last year, a few handset makers quickly released phones powered by it. This includes phones made by Realme, Xiaomi, and OnePlus.

Snapdragon 8 Elite 2: What we know so far

According to reports, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will offer a significant performance upgrade over its predecessor. Leaked AnTuTu benchmarks reveal that the chipset has a single-core score of 4,000 points, an improvement over its predecessor’s 3,200 points. It also scored 13,000 points in multi-core, again higher than the Snapdragon 8 Elite’s 10,300 points.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to use TSMC’s third-gen 3nm process. It will also boast a larger cache, support for faster memory, and upgrades to both its GPU and CPU. The chipset is rumored to use second-gen Oryon custom cores in a setup with 2x Prime cores and 6x high-performance ones. This could explain how it is significantly more powerful than the previous model.

That being said, we have to wonder how much it will cost. Qualcomm has steadily increased the price of its chipsets over the years. Trump’s tariffs will also impact the overall cost, especially if Qualcomm plans to import these semiconductors from overseas.

It’s unlikely that handset makers will absorb all the costs, which means that next year’s flagship phones could see higher prices. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it’s time to start saving if you plan on grabbing the latest and most powerful smartphones in 2026.
