OpenAI introduced a new image generator for ChatGPT last month. Today, the company has announced that its upgraded artificial intelligence-powered image generator, powered by the gpt-image-1 model, will be available to developers and businesses through the API. Companies like Adobe and Figma are incorporating OpenAI’s image models into their platforms.
OpenAI has announced that developers and businesses can integrate OpenAI’s image generation model into their platform using the Images API, powered by gpt-image-1. Developers can utilize it to create photos across different styles, “unlocking countless practical applications across multiple domains.” The AI image model excels at accurately rendering text and following custom design prompts. Furthermore, OpenAI noted that it will soon bring support for the Responses API.
For those unaware, OpenAI’s latest advanced image generator gained popularity recently, thanks to its support for the creation of Studio Ghibli-style art and surreal doll-like visuals.
Adobe and Figma are already integrating OpenAI’s image model into their platforms
Companies like Adobe and Figma will be the first to utilize OpenAI’s latest artificial intelligence-powered image generation models. Adobe is integrating the model into its Firefly and Express applications. It will offer creators the flexibility to generate visuals in different artistic styles.
As for Figma, it is incorporating gpt-image-1 in Figma Design, allowing users to create and edit photos directly within the design platform. The company says that designers can now edit styles, remove or add objects, expand photo backgrounds, and more simply using text prompts. Figma says gpt-image-1 will “accelerate brainstorming, prototyping, and visual iteration.”
Canva, GoDaddy, Instacart, and more are integrating it soon
Furthermore, OpenAI has confirmed that other companies, including Canva, GoDaddy, Instacart, and HubSpot, are also exploring the integration of its image generator into their platforms. Canva is using the tool to push the boundaries of design generation and editing in its Canva AI and Magic Studio tools.
For security, OpenAI’s gpt-image-1 model in the API has the same safety guardrails as GPT-4o image generation in ChatGPT, including safeguards that restrict the model from creating harmful photos and the inclusion of C2PA metadata in generated photos.
