INVESTIGATING THE tragic zipline ride accident in which 28-year-old IT professional Taral Arun Atpalkar died at adventure park in Bhor taluka last week, the Pune Rural police have issued notices to the accused persons including the owner, operator and manager of the adventure park, to appear before the police for the probe. Police said they have also completed the investigation at the location where the accident had taken place.
The incident took place around 5.50 pm on April 18 at Rajgad Water Park Resort located at Varve village in Bhor taluka, around 30 km from Pune. The deceased, Taral Arun Atpalkar (28), who worked as an IT professional, had come to the adventure park along with family members and relatives.
The probe suggests that since adequate safety measures were not taken, when Taral climbed up a stool on the zipline tower to tie the harness rope, she lost her balance as the stool became shaky. She fell 30 feet after hitting the railing. Police said that if the structure had the required strength, and if it had adequate safety features like nets, this accident could have been averted. Police have booked seven persons on charges of causing death due to negligence and for endangering the life and personal safety of others. Offence in the case has been registered at Rajgad police station against the owner, operator, manager, adventure sports manager and three staffers on duty at the time of the incident.
“We have issued notices to the accused persons under section 35 (3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita asking them to appear before us for the purpose of the investigation. As per the Supreme Court directives, for offences punishable with seven years or lesser sentence, notices are to be issued. We have also completed our investigation of the location and have gathered the relevant evidence. After the investigation is done, a chargesheet will be filed in the case. If any of these accused fail to appear or don’t cooperate, they may be arrested,” said an officer from Rajgad Police station.
