
The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has announced a no-work day across all courts in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on April 23, to honour the sudden demise of its senior-most member, Bhupinder Singh Rathore. The decision was unanimously adopted during an emergency meeting held in hybrid mode at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, following his passing earlier in the day.
Rathore, who had been a continuous member of the Bar Council since 1997, held several prestigious positions during his legal career, including Member of the Bar Council of India (1997–2003, 2011–2013), Vice Chairman of the Bar Council of India (2001–2002), and President of the District Bar Association, Karnal, for three terms. His contributions to the legal fraternity were widely respected, and the Council has received condolence messages from the Bar Council of India, its members across 20 states, and legal leaders from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
In its resolution, the Bar Council expressed deep sorrow over Rathore’s demise and requested all Bar Associations in the region to observe the no-work day. The cremation is scheduled for 11:00 am on Wednesday at Shivpuri, Model Town, Karnal, Haryana. As a mark of respect, members and staff observed a two-minute silence during the meeting.
The Council has circulated the resolution among its members, office-bearers of various Bar Associations, Tax Bar Associations, Tribunal Bar Associations, and State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Bar Associations.
