Former Arsenal stars Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey set for reunion

Under Arsene Wenger, when Arsenal made the move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, the club pinned a lot of hopes on two young midfielders to grow into world-class footballers. Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey did enjoy a good spell together in the center of midfield for Arsenal but both were severely hampered by serious injuries during their stints with the North London club. Eventually, they never quite fulfilled their complete potential.

In 2025, they are set for a reunion – on the sidelines. In England’s second division – The Championship – when Norwich City host Cardiff City, the former Arsenal men will be the coaches of their respective sides with Wilshere being appointed as the interim boss of Norwich on Tuesday. On Monday, Ramsey officially took charge of Cardiff City, becoming the third manager became the third man to for the club this season after incumbent Omer Riza was sacked on Saturday. Erol Bulut was sacked in September, and currently Cardiff are languishing at the second-to-last position in the table and staring at relegation. Ramsey, a boyhood Cardiff fan who began his career at the Welsh club, has the unenviable task of preventing a drop to the third division.

Earlier this season, the 33-year-old Wilshere left his position as Arsenal under-18s manager when an opportunity came up to become a first-team coach in Norwich. Wilshere, after a career riddled with injuries, retired from professional football at 30 back in 2022. He took over the age-group side at Arsenal, where it had all begun for him. And now he is set to take charge at least till the end of the season for Norwich.

On the other hand, Ramsey is still officially a Cardiff City player, but the 34-year-old was ruled out of the season recently due to a hamstring injury. “I am just taking these three games,” he said after his first match in charge which ended in a 1-1 draw. “I’m still recovering from a hamstring operation, I’m still in the middle of rehab and I’m focused on getting back to full fitness. This is a role where it’s going to be an intense 10 days now then I can relax and get back into my rehab. I’m just looking at the next two.”
