Pahalgam Terror Attack LIVE News Updates: Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the attackers won’t be spared after at least one person died and 20 others, including tourists, were injured in a terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam. Shah is set to leave for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting after a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The PM directed Shah to take all “suitable measures,” news agency PTI quoted government sources as saying. The Home Minister said those “involved in this dastardly act of terror will not be spared, and we will come down heavily on the perpetrators with the harshest consequences”. My thoughts are with the family members of the deceased, he added in a post on X.
J&K CM says death toll being ascertained: J&K CM Omar Abdullah has said the attack is ‘much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years’. He said that the death toll in the Pahalgam terror attack is “still being ascertained so I don’t want to get into those details”. Abdullah said the information on lives lost will be officially conveyed as the situation becomes clearer. “Needless to say this attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” he said.
Tourists targeted: Two-three militants opened fire at tourists in Baisaran, an off-the-road meadow in Pahalgam, a senior police officer told The Indian Express. The injured have been rushed to a hospital and a few of them are said to be in a critical condition. This is the first militant attack on tourists this year. The last time militants attacked tourists was in May, last year, when two tourists were injured. That incident also took place in Pahalgam.
