With the Premier League season coming to an end, the race for promotion and survival have entered the final stretch. With just five more games to go till the season ends in the English top flight, two teams have confirmed their demotion to the EFL Championship. In the second tier however, only two games remain before the curtain falls on the competition. Here’s a look at the teams that have earned their spot in the Premier League and also at those that will drop down to the second tier.
Promoted clubs for the 2025/26 Premier League season
The EFL Championship this season featured a ruthless chase for promotion. Despite jsut two gams left to go till the season ends, the top two sides are inseparable in terms of points. Both Leeds United and Burnley are on 94 points, with the former grabbing top spot by virtue of its superior goal difference.
- Leeds United : Under the managerial prowess of Daniel Farke, Leeds staged the’ most’ successful campaign in club history with respect to points scored – 94. With just two games left to go, the club can make promotion to the PL even more sweet with the Championship title.
- Burnley : The Clarets have been strugggling to stay up in the Premier League in recent seasons, given the fact that they earned promotion in 2023 and were relegated the very next year in 2024. However, under the guidance of Scott Parker, the side have once again earned promotion, and sit in second spot with 94 points.
- The third side is determined through a playoff round, in which the winner from spots 3 to 6 compete for promotion. With two games left for every side in the Championship, as things stand, Sheffield United & Sunderland (3rd and 4th) have a confirmed spot in the playoffs. The other two slots are up for grabs, with Bristol City, Coventry, Middlesbrough, Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, West Brom and Swansea all in the running.
Relegated Clubs from the Premier League in the 2024/25 season
- Southampton : The club managed to win just 2 games all season and with just 11 points to their name, they set the ‘unwanted’ record of earliest Premeir League relegation. The Saints also parted ways with manager Ivan Juric after failing to stay up in the Premier League.
- Leicester City : The Foxes became the second of the three sides to go down this season. With only five games to go, the side led by veteran Jamie Vardy in attack only managed a total of 4 wins throughout the campaign.
- Ipswich Town or West Ham United : Even though it is mathematically still posiible for West Ham to be relegated, it is near inevitable that Ipswich Town are going down. Currently sat in 18th, Ipswich will need to win all their remaining matches, and score at least 20 goals to match West Ham’s (17th place) goal difference of -18.
