IPL 2025 | "We were not allowed to come here": Rohit Sharma on Wankhede Stadium

After a string of low scores in the IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians (MI) stalwart Rohit Sharma played an unbeaten knock of 76 runs off just 45 deliveries, including four boundaries and six maximums.

Following his match-winning knock, the right-hander was awarded the “Player of the Match” award. MI sealed the victory by nine wickets in the IPL 2025 match against CSK.

Recently, Rohit has been honoured at the Wankhede Stadium, as a stand was named after him at the iconic venue.

Speaking about the stand, the former MI skipper said, “Looks pretty far! Huge honour. I used to come here as a kid and watch the game. We were not allowed to come here at some stage. I grew up playing at this ground, now to have that stand, huge honour.”

“Don`t know how I will react when it actually comes up. Satisfying part was to finish the game,” Rohit added.

The 76-run knock against CSK also marked Rohit`s first half-century in the ongoing IPL 2025. Speaking on his knock, “It has been a while (getting a big score) but if you doubt yourself, you put pressure on yourself. It is important to balance how you want to play. Today I wanted to hit the ball but it was also important to hold the shape and extend the arms,” said the 37-year-old stalwart.

“After being here for a long time, it`s easy to start doubting yourself and start doing different things. It was important for me to practice well, hit the ball well. When you are clear in your mind, things like this can happen. And then if the ball is in the arc, I want to try what i always do. It has not been happening consistently but I am not going to doubt myself,” he added.

Following the victory in the IPL 2025 match against CSK, the “Paltan” has now moved up to the sixth position on the points table. Currently, the side has registered victories in four matches and has suffered the same number of defeats.
