Here is what critics are saying about Akshay Kumar’s movie

Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar in the role of a lawyer, is currently showing in theatres. The Bollywood release is helmed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra.

NDTV opined that Akshay Kumar has been miscast. “He is way too cavalier with the linguistic and behavioural characteristics of the protagonist,” the critic argued. The review feels that the screenplay of the film is not up to the mark. “There is a lot of history in Kesari Chapter 2 but the granularities of the freedom struggle, its manifestations in Punjab and the roles of its leaders do not find their way into the screenplay,” the reviewer wrote.

As per The Hindu, the film is “chest-thumping”. In telling the story of jurist C. Sankaran Nair (Akshay Kumar’s character), the film “neither does justice to his contribution nor uncovers the conspiracy behind the Jallianwala Bagh massacre; it only baffles with its cavalier approach towards the past”. Furthermore, “the English actors, led by Simon Paisley Dey as General Dyer, come across as caricatures speaking long Hindi dialogue in a stilted fashion”.

The film is based on a book named The Case That Shook The Empire. Indian Express noted that the film takes too much liberty. “We also get high-on-populism lines with Akshay’s Nair liberally throwing the F word around, in the context of the British overlords,” the reviewer wrote.

Kesari Chapter 2, as per early trade reports, opened to fairly good numbers on Day 1.
