Mumbai police suspended a police constable, who was posted at an anti-terror attack combat vehicle, after he was found lying on the side of a road in an inebriated state.
A source in the police department said on Tuesday that police constable Naik Prashant Keshav Satam, who is currently attached to the Kalachowki police station, has been suspended.
Satam was given the duty to remain present at the police’s combat vehicle on the morning of February 11, but he was absent from duty. Later, police found Satam lying on the side of the road near Narayan Udyog Bhavan in police uniform. When he was found, Satam was not in his senses and had to be picked up from the spot and taken to the police station. His family was informed and after he regained his senses, he was allowed to go home.
Since Satam was in police uniform at the time of the incident and the act maligns the police force’s image, a suspension was initiated against him. A police officer said generally, disciplinary action is taken in such cases to send out a strong message. The officer added that the Deputy Commissioner, Zone 4, ordered an internal inquiry against Satam and till the time it is concluded, he will remain suspended from duty.
