Retail prices of petrol and diesel will not see an increase due to the hike in excise duty on the two fuels, the Petroleum Ministry said Monday.
“PSU Oil Marketing Companies have informed that there will be no increase in retail prices of #Petrol and #Diesel, subsequent to the increase effected in Excise Duty Rates today,” the ministry posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The announcement came shortly after the government hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre.
According to industry insiders, the decline in international crude oil and petroleum product prices had created enough headroom for the Centre to increase the levy on the two fuels. Alternatively, the benefit could have been passed on to the consumers in the form of a price cut.
