Empuraan box office collection day 6: Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s film rages towards Rs 250 crore mark despite controversy | Malayalam News

L2 Empuraan box office collection day 6: After securing the biggest opening in Malayalam cinema history, Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan has maintained a steady momentum at the box office. However, the film has seen a slight dip during the week. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, it minted Rs 9 crore on Tuesday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 79.15 crore. The film’s box office collection is approaching Rs 250 crore.

On Tuesday, L2: Empuraan had an overall 51.35 percent occupancy in Malayalam, with the Malayalam version contributing the highest revenue. The film also recorded 12.28 percent occupancy in Telugu, 17.46 percent in Tamil, and 9.04 percent in Hindi. The film opened with an impressive Rs 21 crore at the box office. However, collections dipped during the week, with Rs 11 crore on Monday and a further decline to Rs 9 crore on Tuesday.

In the Hindi market, the film is competing with Salman Khan’s Eid release, Sikandar. While Sikandar has underperformed, it still poses competition for Mohanlal’s film. On Tuesday, Sikandar raked in Rs 19.5 crore, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 74.5 crore within three days of release.

Despite receiving positive reviews, L2: Empuraan has been mired in controversy. The film, which features a fictional storyline linked to the 2002 Gujarat riots, faced backlash and was labeled “anti-national” by some groups. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) proposed several cuts, to which the makers complied, implementing a total of 24 cuts. The scenes linked to the Gujarat riots were altered, following which the CBFC issued a fresh certificate. In total, 2 minutes and 8 seconds were removed from the original version of the film.
