In a big relief to commuters, 40 new ‘Lalpari’ buses have been added to the fleet of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s (MSRTC) Pune division. The buses have been allocated to Baramati, Indapur, Shivajinagar and Swargate depots. The addition of new buses will help MSRTC to resume air-conditioned e-bus services in the Pune-Mumbai route, which were stopped last year.
The e-bus services to Mumbai that were being operated from Baramati and Indapur depots in Pune had come to a halt as the Regional Transport Office (RTO) had ordered to dismantle several Shivneri and Shivshahi AC buses that had reached their expiry.
Currently, buses ply to various destinations in the state from 14 MSRTC depots in the Pune division. MSRTC started the process of dismantling more than 300 old buses in phases. Till now, 72 Shivneri and Shivshahi buses have been dismantled.
Sachin Shinde, MSRTC Divisional Officer, Pune, said, “The air-conditioned Pune – Mumbai Shivshahi (e-bus) service running from Baramati depot has been closed since last year. With the introduction of 40 State Transport (ST) for the depots in Pune division, the services running on the Mumbai route have been started with the planning of air-conditioned buses. The ST trips at the inter-state level have also been planned. The second phase of ST buses will begin soon.”
Here are the routes where the 40 buses will run:
Baramati depot – Saswad, Pune Marg (8) and Belgaum (1)
Indapur depot – Tuljapur (4), Umarga (4), Parli (2)
Shivajinagar depot – Bhimashankar (5), Indore (2), Trimbakeshwar (2) and Beed (1)
Swargate depot – Bidar (4), Udgir (4) and Gulbarga (2)
