3 dead, 2 critical after slab falls at construction site in Cuttack | India News

At least three persons died and two others sustained critical injuries after a concrete slab of an under-construction bridge over river Kathajodi in Odisha’s Cuttack fell on them Saturday.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ordered a probe into the incident, officials said. The deceased include the site engineer and two labourers and identified as residents of Odisha and West Bengal.

The incident took place when the concrete slab was being carried by a crane during construction work. According to police sources, preliminary investigation showed that a breakdown of the crane could have led to the accident although a thorough investigation is being conducted by the police.

The injured are being treated at SCB Medical College in Cuttack and their condition is stated to be critical. The CM has announced an ex-gratia of `5 lakh for the family members of the deceased.
