A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by five people on multiple occasions over three months in Central Mumbai, police said on Monday.
The police arrested a 25-year-old man and detained four juveniles for the sexual assault in the Kalachowki area a few hours after the incident, an officer said, adding that the matter came to light in the early hours of Sunday when the girlfriend of one of the accused arrived at the teen`s house and confronted her about being in a relationship with her boyfriend.
The school girl`s parents then checked her mobile phone and found some videos and messages about her physical relationship with the accused, and subsequently approached the police, the officer added.
Based on the complaint filed by the girl`s parents, a case of gang rape was registered against five persons under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, PTI reported, quoting the officer.
8-year-old girl raped and murdered at Assam tea garden, one arrested
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered at a tea garden in Assam`s Dibrugarh district, police said on Sunday.
The crime took place at a small tea garden within the jurisdiction of Kachari Pathar in Namrup Police Station on Saturday when the girl was out to collect firewood, the police further stated.
“The accused was fishing nearby when he saw the girl alone. He allegedly raped and killed her, most likely by smothering,” an officer said.
The accused then concealed the body in a drain, covering it with hay and grass, he added.
“When the girl did not return home, her parents along with neighbours began searching for her. They also informed the police. The body was found around 8.40 pm,” the police further informed.
Locals nabbed the accused when he tried to flee from the scene and handed him over to the police.
According to the police, the accused had already served 14 years in jail for his mother’s murder and was released only three years ago.
“He is in our custody. A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of BNS,” Namrup`s DSP Prasenjit Das said.
