
More than 48 hours after a 32-year-old woman died and three others were injured in an accident involving a 16-wheeler dumper truck and three other vehicles in Haryana’s Faridabad, the police on Thursday lodged an FIR against the truck driver, who is absconding.
The accident took place early Tuesday morning at an intersection in Sector 21C near Ankhir Chowk. According to Jasbir Singh, Station House Officer, Ankhir police post, the truck first crashed into a school bus that was on its way to pick up children. The bus then rammed into a car and a pickup truck, he added.
The police identified the deceased as Suvarna Tripathi, an IT professional working in Noida who was on her way to the gym with her husband. He is currently hospitalised and in a critical condition. The couple got married around two years ago and stayed in Faridabad’s Sector 22.
The police are analysing CCTV footage to locate the driver, Police Sub-Inspector Yashpal, Public Relations Officer, Faridabad Police, said. He added that the police have invoked sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the FIR against the driver. Section 106(2) of the BNS, which provides for a jail term up to 10 years for drivers who flee the scene after causing an accident and do not report it, continues to be on hold.
