Telangana Government’s Imminent Rollout: Rs 500 LPG Cylinders Coming Soon to Hyderabad and Other Districts

LPG Cylinders

In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Congress-led government in Telangana is gearing up to fulfill its promise under the Mahalakshmi scheme, offering subsidized LPG cylinders priced at Rs 500 and a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2500 to eligible women in Hyderabad and other districts of the state.

Sources cited by Deccan Chronicle (DC) reveal that the Chief Minister of Telangana, who recently concluded a tour to Davos, London, and Dubai, has instructed officials to expedite the planning and implementation of these two welfare schemes, both crucial components of the Maha Lakshmi Guarantee.

During the recently concluded Praja Palana program, held from December 28 to January 6, an overwhelming response was witnessed as a staggering 91.49 lakh women applied for the subsidized LPG cylinders priced at Rs 500. Simultaneously, 92.23 lakh women submitted applications for the monthly financial aid. Notably, these two guarantees received the highest number of applications compared to other promises outlined by the Congress government.

The Congress government’s ambitious goal is to execute the two components of the Mahalakshmi scheme before the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the impending Lok Sabha polls.

Mahalakshmi Scheme in Telangana

The Mahalakshmi scheme, a key promise made by the Congress party during the electoral campaign, envisions providing monthly financial assistance of Rs 2500 to women. In addition to this, the scheme aims to make LPG cylinders available at the subsidized rate of Rs 500. Furthermore, free bus travel for women in the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is also part of the comprehensive welfare initiative.

While the government has already taken strides towards fulfilling the promise of free bus travel for women in the TSRTC, the implementation of the commitments related to financial aid and subsidized LPG cylinders at Rs 500 is still pending.

As the Congress government grapples to meet its ambitious targets, it remains to be seen whether the schemes related to financial aid and Rs 500 LPG cylinders will be rolled out in Hyderabad and other Telangana districts before the announcement of the Model Code of Conduct or if further delays will ensue. The public eagerly awaits the fulfillment of these promises as the Lok Sabha polls draw near.
