Mari Selvaraj’s Bison is not slowing down. Entering its third week in cinemas, the Dhruv Vikram-led film has now collected more than ₹70 crore worldwide, according to the latest figures shared by the director on social media. Data from box office tracker Sacnilk shows that the film has earned a little over ₹53 crore from theatres across India alone, cementing its position as Mari Selvaraj’s highest-grossing film so far.
The sports drama has managed to hold steady despite new releases, a sign of its strong word of mouth and repeat audience turnout. Reports indicate that the film has performed exceptionally well in southern centres such as Dindigul, Puducherry, Kochi, Vellore, and Chennai. While Chennai accounts for the maximum number of shows, Dindigul has recorded the highest occupancy percentage.
Trade analysts suggest that Bison could continue its successful run into a fourth week if the current pace holds, potentially setting new records for films of its genre in Tamil cinema.

Real-life inspiration and powerful performances
Bison tells the story of a determined young man from a marginalised community who dreams of representing India in kabaddi. Inspired by the life of Arjuna Award-winning kabaddi player Manathi P Ganesan, the film blends the intensity of a sports drama with a sharp social commentary on inequality, corruption, and systemic barriers.
Dhruv Vikram delivers a committed performance, bringing both physical authenticity and emotional depth to the role. His preparation for the kabaddi sequences and his portrayal of a fighter battling social odds have earned widespread praise. The cast also includes Pasupathy, Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Ameer, and Anupama Parameswaran, each adding dimension to the film’s world.
Critics have noted that Mari Selvaraj once again demonstrates his ability to craft stories that are deeply rooted in social reality while maintaining cinematic appeal. His storytelling, known for its empathy and moral clarity, has connected with viewers who find Bison both inspiring and thought-provoking.

A milestone for Mari Selvaraj and Dhruv Vikram
For Mari Selvaraj, Bison marks a career peak. His earlier works, Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan, earned him immense respect for their thematic courage and distinctive style. With Bison, he has achieved both critical and commercial triumph, a combination that is rare in the industry.
