Ather Apex 540
After much anticipation and a series of teasers, Ather Energy has finally pulled the curtains off its latest offering, the Ather 450 Apex. Priced at Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the 450 Apex is positioned as the pinnacle of innovation, pushing the boundaries of Ather’s current platform within safe thermodynamic limits.
One of the key highlights of the Ather 450 Apex is its use of the same 3.7kWh battery pack as its predecessor, the 450X. However, Ather claims a significant improvement in the In Drive Charge (IDC) range, now boasting an impressive 157km, thanks to the incorporation of a new regenerative braking system. A unique feature named ‘Magic Twist’ allows riders to slow down the e-scooter by twisting the accelerator 15 degrees backward without using the brakes.
The motor on the 450 Apex is rated for 7kW of peak power, and it stands out as the sole model in Ather’s lineup to feature the Warp+ mode. In this mode, Ather claims an impressive 0-40kph acceleration time of just 2.9 seconds, along with quicker 40-80kph times compared to the 450X. Additionally, the 450 Apex is the only Ather EV capable of reaching a claimed top speed of 100kph in this high-performance mode.
While maintaining the fundamental characteristics of the 450 platform, including seat height, wheelbase, tire sizes, and ground clearance, the 450 Apex introduces a new enclosed belt drive system. Ather plans to implement this drive system across its entire lineup in the future, but it won’t be available as a retrofit option for current models.
Visually, the 450 Apex retains the overall design of its predecessor but adds a distinctive touch with a special Indium blue color for its body panels. The rear panel is transparent, revealing the chassis finished in a vibrant orange color.
With a price tag of Rs 1.89 lakh (ex-showroom, xx), the Ather 450 Apex comes at a premium of Rs 21,000 over the top-spec 450X with the 3.7kWh battery and Pro pack. Co-founder Tarun Mehta emphasizes that the 450 Apex is not primarily commercially targeted but is more of a passion project. Production of the 450 Apex will be limited based on demand, and Ather plans to manufacture this flagship model until October 2024. Bookings for the Ather 450 Apex are now open, and deliveries are scheduled to commence in March 2024. Electric scooter enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing the cutting-edge features and performance that the Ather 450 Apex brings to the table.
