A transgender gang forcibly subjected a student to gender reassignment surgery, extorted money, and filmed obscene acts using threats and coercion, the 19-year-old BCom from Malad has alleged. According to the detailed complaint filed with the police, the victim, a resident of Appapada, Kurar village in Malad East, had befriended a person named Kaveri (Kartik) Vedamani Nikam, a resident of Malwani, Malad West, about one and a half years ago. Through Kaveri, he was introduced to Neha Khan alias Neha Ipte, who, according to the complaint, leads a local transgender group operating from the same locality.
On August 5, the victim was allegedly called to Neha’s residence, where Neha, Kaveri, Bhaskar Shetty, and a person named Mahi reportedly brainwashed him to undergo gender transition. When he refused, they allegedly locked him in a room, forced him to perform indecent acts with a dog, recorded the act, and used the video to blackmail him.
The victim further alleged that Neha and Kaveri beat him up and demanded Rs 51,000, threatening to leak the video and frame him in a false criminal case. Subsequently, the complainant’s mother, fearing for her son’s safety, transferred Rs 10,000 through Google Pay to Neha’s account.
Later, on August 8 and October 17, Neha allegedly demanded an additional Rs 40,000, threatening to expose the video. The victim claims that Neha publicly humiliated him in front of her transgender associates, beat him up, and made him wear a saree and beg.
The complaint states that on October 28, Neha, her husband Sohail Khan, her adopted son Bhaskar Shetty, and others took the victim to a hospital near Ripple Mall, Surat in Gujarat, where, under pressure, they made him sign medical papers. It alleges that doctors conducted a forced gender reassignment surgery without his consent.
After returning to Mumbai, the victim says Neha poured hot water on his operated area under the pretext of healing him and forced him to do household chores. A few days later, a doctor allegedly came to Neha’s residence and removed his urinary catheter. When the victim asked to return to his mother, Neha allegedly demanded Rs 4.5 lakh, saying the amount was to “repay the expenses of the operation”.
On November 4, the victim managed to escape Neha’s house and reached his home after contacting his mother. However, later that night, Neha and her associates allegedly stormed their residence, threatened his mother, and demanded his return.
Then, in the early hours of November 5, while the victim was at the Appapada autorickshaw stand, he was allegedly abducted again by Kaveri, her boyfriend Jitu, and Krishna Yadav. He claimed he was taken to Malwani, where Neha was waiting, but after intervention by local resident Praveen Khadtale, Neha eventually released him near Malad railway station.
The victim was reunited with his mother and later approached the Kurar police station to file a formal complaint. The case was initially registered as a ‘zero’ FIR at Kurar police station and later transferred to the Malwani police for investigation.
“Based on the victim’s statement, we have registered a case and booked Neha Khan, Sohail Khan, Bhaskar Shetty, Kaveri Nikam, Mahi, Nawaz, Krishna Yadav, and others for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, sexual assault, extortion, and forced medical mutilation under relevant sections,” said an officer from Malwani police station. Under the guidance of DCP Zone XI, ACP Neeta Padvi, Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar, and Assistant Police Inspector Meena Mare began the investigation and arrested four individuals on Thursday and produced them before the court.
“This is a very serious and sensitive case. We are verifying all details and facts, including hospital records and the role of the accused,” said Nagarkar.
