Over 300 locations raided in connection with alleged links to

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday conducted raids at more than 300 locations in the Valley allegedly linked to persons affiliated with the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, PTI reported.

The raids were conducted in the districts of Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Baramulla and Ganderbal.

More than 200 locations in Kulgam were raided, and over 400 cordon-and-search operations were carried out in the district over the past week, The Indian Express reported.

The police interrogated about 500 persons allegedly affiliated with banned organisations. Several of those interrogated have been shifted to District Jail Mattan in Anantnag under preventive detention laws, according to PTI.

The police also claimed to have recovered incriminating material, including documents and digital devices, during the raids.

The actions came after intelligence that elements linked to the Jamaat-e-Islami, banned under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, were trying to revive the organisation under different names, the police said.

The raids were conducted against the backdrop of the police claiming that they had cracked an “inter-state and transnational terror module” in Haryana’s Faridabad and Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, and a car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station that left eight dead.

The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have not linked the terror module and blast cases with the ongoing raids.

The blast in Delhi took place on Monday evening, when a Hyundai i20 car exploded near gate number one of the Red Fort metro station. While no details have been officially provided yet about what caused the blast, the police have filed a case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Explosives Act.

In the alleged terror module case, two doctors from Kashmir – Adeel Ahmad Rather and Muzamil Shakeel – are among those arrested.

Shakeel, one of those arrested in the alleged terror module case, taught at the Al-Falah University at Dhauj in the Faridabad district. Two more persons from the university – Umar Mohammed and Shaheen Shahid – have also been taken into custody in the case, NDTV reported.

The authorities said on Monday that 360 kilograms of inflammable substances, along with other material that “could be used for terrorist activities”, was recovered in Faridabad during a raid jointly conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Haryana Police.

No connection with arrested persons: Al-Falah

Commenting on the developments, Al-Falah University said on Wednesday that it has “no connection with the said persons apart from them working in their official capacities with the University”, ANI reported.

“No such chemical or material, as alleged by certain platforms, is being used, stored, or handled within the University premises,” it said, adding that its laboratories are only used for academic training purposes.

The university’s vice-chancellor, Bhupinder Kaur, said the institution is cooperating with investigating authorities to enable them “to arrive at a logical, fair, and conclusive determination in the matter pertaining to national security”.
